What's first came up on your mind when you wake up and having a breakfast in the morning?Checking smartphones if there any messages left, whining how you're not getting enough sleep or kept thinking about how much the work there will be today. Err..aren't you missing up something here..err..reading newspaper maybe?Well, you're right. You're not missing anything here. It's just reading newspaper is no more a habitual thing in our brand new society. Right?

While reading newspaper in the morning nowadays is not as essential as it before, via buying it at the store or on subscription, news availability, unlike twelve years ago, has seemingly create an ample choice to the public on how to obtained an information. News can be accessed by using smartphone and from here it can lead to a massive pool of info, from global news to local news, and from the general audience to the specific audience. In this new century too, marks the rise of cable television and satellite television news in which severely damaged newspaper potential of the future. Television initially does not give any competition against newspaper, it was rather presenting the news from and read it for us. But this eventually became a backfire to the society as it grew to a somewhat laziness syndrome spreading to the world and it is still are up until today. This ultimately shaping our society behaviour into a lacking passion of reading. It is not just about reading but more on about reading an important matters. People concern are still there, wanting to know as much information as it could get, but people are still refused to buy a newspaper.

Newspaper, unlike any other sources of information, does not have or use any advantage like a yellow journalism did, eye-catching headlines, exaggerating certain news or even using large illustration in order to claim higher revenue from selling newspaper, newspaper itself provides information and ostensibly making people going out and voice public opinion or in the easiest way, to think. Our world right now inundated by 'We Don't Care' generation, not even try to think but rather reading the news and that's it. Newspaper at the very first sight, it's not about making money. Not like what business is all about. If we wait until the evening and visit the store, there is still loads of newspaper left unsold. While Internet using full advantage of it. Free, environmental-friendly and using search engine available just by typing for a few word, you will immediately gained desirable information. Newspaper meanwhile, left untouched.

The fall of several newspaper including The Rocky Mountain News, The Seattle Post-Intelligencer, and even The Times, owned by Rupert Murdoch have to change from the broadsheet size to compact size in order to attract more younger readers proved vital to the future of newspaper and has created an early indication of what might have been in the coming years. While the existence of New Media affecting newspaper a lot, most of the newspaper intelligent are critical towards the Internet and broadcast media with the media facing one of major problem in the journalism world, plagiarism. It is hard to detect the plagiarism before the technology arrives, while the introduction of technology have somewhat creating a license for people to plagiarise. There are criticism towards newspaper too for little changes and for failed to keep pace of changing era. They are now relying heavily on advertisement to circulate throughout the country with circulation in decline 2% every year and the decline has since grown rapidly. Most of the printed newspaper owned an online news and manage to gain revenue from the online base but still couldn't stop the newspaper from declining in sale. People are also argued that refusing to read the newspaper is contributed by the control of  newspaper by the government, leading to a huge distrustful towards the truth and accuracy of the newspaper and subsequently will neither buy nor reading it.

At the end of the day, newspaper are still struggling to find any way to recuperate or to rise again from stiff competition from New Media and broadcast media. Some still optimistic with newspaper feeling that newspaper as pioneers of the media or the mother of all journalism will somehow manage to find its new way to stay together in the society as one of information contributor to the humankind but others feel the future looks bleak. Nevertheless, newspaper still possess the quality of journalism than any other media, not with advertisement, not with alluring design, but with a word as a weapon. But the question remains, will the newspaper die?
